Richard grew up in Brewer, Maine, in a home owned by the family for three generations. He attended Brewer High School and the University of Maine, Orono. Richard joined the United States Coast Guard where he spent the next 20 years. He has traveled much of the world from Maine to Alaska, New York, Florida, Hawaii, California, Chile, Japan and even Antarctica. He has been the Commanding Officer of one of the busiest Coast Guard Stations in the nation. During his service, he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Husson College in Bangor, Maine.
Since his retirement in 1987, Richard has been a full time real estate agent selling homes and land primarily in Hancock and Washington Counties. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Hancock-Washington Board of Realtors. He was President of the Downeast Multiple Listing Service for two years and was awarded Realtor of the Year for his dedication, innovation and leadership.
Extremely interested in genealogy with a reputation of honesty, Richard has served as Treasurer of the Maine Genealogical Society since 1999. He served four terms as President of the Hancock County Genealogical Society. An accomplished author, he has had five articles published in The Maine Genealogist of which he was a Contributing Editor from February 1998 to February 2007. Richard also taught Algebra at Ellsworth Adult Education evenings during the winter months for ten years. Many of his former students have returned to thank him for his dedication and patience with them.
"I enjoy meeting people and discovering how we are similar, who we know in common, and perhaps even how we are related. Most of all, I enjoy seeing people's faces light up when they find that special home or the parcel of land for their future house."
Richard also represents Sellers and understands, from his numerous moves in the military, leaving a home and relocating to a new community is not easy. "I try to provide as many sources of information as I can to make the move an adventure and a source of happy memories."
